Perfect Winter Wedding at Redcoats

Amy & Jonathan’s Beautiful Winter Wedding at Redcoats

Nestled in the heart of the Hertfordshire countryside, The Barns at Redcoats is a gem of a venue, perfect for a magical winter wedding. Built-in 1771 and lovingly refurbished in 2018 by the Nye family, this historic venue combines rustic charm with modern sophistication. Just 30 minutes from London, it’s designed to make your dream wedding a reality. As a winter wedding photographer, I’ve captured unforgettable moments here, and I’m excited to share my experience with you.

A Morning Full of Calm and Excitement

I arrived at Redcoats on 29th October, greeted by typical overcast English weather. However, inside the bridal suite, Amy and her bridesmaids were calm and perfectly on schedule. Amy was doing her makeup while I captured those often-overlooked details: the dress, shoes, flowers, and personal touches that make the day uniquely hers. Working solo at this wedding meant splitting my time between Amy and Jonathan.

As is often the case, Jonathan and his party were ready with time to spare—although there was a slight delay. Groom photos are usually quick and relaxed, and we wrapped them up in about 20 minutes before I returned to the bridal suite. The compact layout of Redcoats made it easy to move seamlessly between locations, ensuring no moments were missed.

An Emotional Ceremony in a Historic Setting

Amy’s first look at her father was a heartwarming moment that left everyone in tears—including me. After a quick tissue break, I prepared for the ceremony. The ceremony space, set in an old barn, is steeped in history but has limited lighting. As an experienced winter wedding photographer, I used my Rotolight setup to infuse warmth and light where it was needed, creating beautifully lit shots in a challenging environment.

The long aisle made for a dramatic entrance as Amy walked down, and once again, tears flowed freely from both the bride and groom. It was one of the most emotional ceremonies I’ve ever attended. Afterwards, with the help of DJ Mike, we gathered everyone outside for group photos, including their adorable dog, Millie, who stole the show.

Stunning Couple Portraits in a Winter Wonderland

After the group photos, I took Amy and Jonathan for a quick couple’s portrait session around the venue. Even in winter, The Barns at Redcoats offers countless picturesque backdrops, from rustic barns to cosy corners that exude charm. Although the chilly weather limited our time outside, we captured stunning shots that highlighted their connection and the beauty of the venue.

One memorable moment was in the bar, where the warm, ambient lighting created a perfect setting. Jonathan lifted Amy onto the bar, and the resulting photos were both fun and romantic. These little creative touches make each wedding unique.

Winter Wedding Tips

Planning a winter wedding? Here are some tips to ensure your day is unforgettable:

Embrace the Season: Opt for warm, rich tones in your decor and attire to complement the winter vibe.

Warm Up the Reception: Incorporate seasonal touches like mulled wine or hot chocolate to keep everyone toasty & candles.

Stay Warm and Stylish: The bride could wear a chic bolero for added warmth, while the groom might layer with a stylish waistcoat.

Create Cosy Comforts: Provide soft blankets or outdoor heaters to keep guests comfortable in colder spaces.

Amy and Jonathan opted for the Classic Wedding Package which included 10 hours of coverage, with plenty of time to capture everything from bridal prep to the first dance.
